A long time ago, near a village called Buttery Town, there lived a dragon. He was the color of midnight. He was huge and covered in sharp, pointy scales. The fire he breathed could light up the night sky in a second.
He lived in a nest high above the village in an old, dead tree.

Everyone in Buttery Town was scared of the dragon...everyone but one fearless girl.
Scarlett wanted to be a knight. She was strong and brave and fearless.
Sure, the dragon breathed fire. But there were people with worse breath. And sure, the Dragon looked scary. But there were dogs in the village with way scarier faces than the dragon.

One day, the dragon had come down from his nest and was hiding in the cornfields to make popcorn and eat popcorn.
Everyone ran to escape the nice dragon. Everyone except for Scarlett.
Only with her homemade sword, helmet, and shield, Scarlett ran through the empty village toward the cornfield with no fear of the dragon.

When she spotted the dragon, Scarlett snuck up behind him.
“Excuse me!” Scarlett yelled. The dragon roared. He lowered his head to her level. Scarlett felt the dragon’s hot breath on her face.
“I’m Scarlett,” she said. “I’ve come to tell you to go away please. You’re scaring everybody, but me.”

The dragon’s breaths quickened. Huff! Huff! Huff! It looked like the dragon’s fire was about to blow fire! Scarlett got herself ready for the blow of fire. But instead of fire coming out of his mouth, tears began pouring down the dragon’s snout onto the floor.
“I'm Mr. Sparky Dragon, nice to meet you. I’m so lonely. Nobody likes me,” the dragon said.

“Why should anyone like you?” Scarlett replied. “You burned down the royal castle.”
“I didn’t burn down the castle,” the dragon said. “It was struck by lightning that night. I would never do that, the queen is there.”
“Wow,” Scarlett said. “Sounds like people are saying a lie about you. We’ve got to fix this. What are you good at?”
“Breathing fire,” replied the dragon.
“Well, let’s see it,” ordered Scarlett nicely.

The dragon inhaled deeply and let out the biggest fire breath he could make in a second.
“Look out for the corn!” Scarlett yelled. But it was way too late. The dragon’s fire shot out through the stalks and the field was a huge blaze of fire.
Suddenly, the air filled with the sound of pops. Thousands and thousands of popcorn kernels jumped up into the sky and fell back down again as fluffy white popcorn all over the village. Scarlett panicked when she saw the popcorn.

"Scarlett"
This the book I made Scarlett for her third birthday. At my cousins' birthday party, everyone liked it but her. My feelings weren’t hurt because she was two, it was before her actual birthday.
